Last Sunday saw the opening race of the FIS World Cup season won by the formidable Ted Ligety in Solden, Austria. Ligety crushed the rest of the field, with second place finisher Alexis Pinturault being a huge 0.79 seconds off the pace. Full results can be found here.

The result was somewhat unsurprising as Ligety managed to win 6/8 races in last year’s World Cup – it seems he has been working hard all summer to ensure that he is ready to retain his title this year!

A professional skier showing us how it should be done!

The day before was an opportunity for the women to strut their stuff, and the Swiss sensation Lara Gut won in convincing fashion.

The next stop on the Giant Slalom World Cup tour is Levi in Finland on the 17th November. If I were a betting man, I would say the safe bet would be on Ted Ligety once more. The fast paced Downhill World Cup starts the week before at Copper Mountain in Colorado
