The iconic, high-altitude resort of Val d’Isere has a huge amount going on across the coming months. Here, we bring you our top pick of events to mark down on your calendar for December, January and February.

Christmas Festivities

 

When: 20th to 26th December 2015.

 

What: Val d’Isere will celebrate Christmas with dazzling fireworks, a torch lit ski show, fire-juggling, free Christmas concerts, giant snow sculptures standing 4 metres high and, of course, Santa riding into town atop his sleigh.

 

Airboarding on the Savonette Piste

 

When: 23rd December 2015 and 5th and 19th January 2016.

 

What: Soar head first down the flood-lit Savonette piste in the centre of Val d’Isere on specially designed airboards. Shift your weight to maneuver and experience the feeling of weightless flight over the snow! 

 

New Year Celebrations

 

When: 29th December 2015 to 1st January 2016.

 

What: Welcome in 2016 with a crop of festivities, including free Yooner sledging on the beginner slopes, a freestyle ski show courtesy of the Valpark team and fireworks bursting across the night sky. On the big night, the main street will be closed to traffic to make way for a vibrant street party with vin chaud, ice sculptures and thousands of brightly coloured lights.

 

Red Bull Linecatcher

 

When: 16th to 22nd January 2016.  

 

What: A one of a kind freeride & freestyle competition. Watch some of the world’s best skiers carve down steep backcountry verticals, leap, twist and soar through the air and pick up incredible top speeds. All on terrain filled with rocks, drops and kickers. This year, the contest will be held just across from Val in neighbouring Tignes.

 

Disabled Alpine Skiing World Cup

 

When: 25th to 30th January 2016.

 

What: 90 of the world’s top athletes will race for the IPC (International Paralympic Committee) World Cup title in thrilling downhill and super-combined events. This year, it all takes place at Lognan Stadium in Tignes Val Claret.

 

Frostgun Invitational Val d’Isere

 

When: 16th to 18th February 2016

 

What: An original freestyle event with top skiers and boarders tackling a HUGE custom-built kicker in the heart of Val d’Isere for a shot at glory and cash prizes. Go along to watch the big air acrobatics, then stick around for the live music and after parties!
