The first instalment of the wonderful ClassicaVal has just finished, it ran between 24th and 26th January 2012 under the artistic direction of David Lefèvre. January’s musicians included Elizabeth Vidal (Soprano), Sofia Sperry (Alto), Andrè Cognet (Bass-baritone), Sofia Cosme (Flute), Viacheslaw Poprugin (Piano) and Edouard Sapey-Triomphe (Cello), with March’s line up set to be just as good.
Formerly called "MusicaVal" or "Classic of Val d'Isere," the festival is now called "ClassicaVal" and is an essential cultural event of the winter season in Val d'Isere. It has been held in Val since 1993 and brings together lovers of classical music in a symbolic place, the baroque church "Saint Bernard de Menthon” which dates back to 1664.
The classicaVal will return to Val d’Isere from the 12th to 15th March for the Opus 2 which is under the artistic direction of the fabulous Elena Rozanova. Yvan Chaix, Virginia Lacroix, David Hemelsdael are the directors and Francis Lafontaine, Didier Dauville working on technique.
In the Opus 2, each evening performance will usually lasts for about an hour and twenty minutes without an intermission. The concerts start at 18:30 every night and are a great way to relax after a day on the slopes.
So if you are going to be in Val d’Isere between 12th and 15th March, make sure you check out the ClassicaVal, it really is the perfect way to unwind after a hard day on the slopes. Additionally after the concert on the Tuesday, the public is invited to a friendly with the musicians around a reception to be held in the Council Chamber (House Marcel Charvin).
